I talk to 100 people and no one's heard of this. I post on thing online and someone has actually read the damn thing.
Multiple times. It's the best post-apocalyptic novel ever written, bar none. It's a shame that George Stewart has largely been forgotten. He wrote Earth Abides on a lark; most of his stuff was essays. Earth Abides started out as essays, in fact; he was writing a bunch of essays that were essentially The World Without Us and tying them together with narrative about the experiences of a lone survivor. About halfway through he realized that the interstitials were much more engaging than the essays so he swapped their prominence.
I've also read it many times. I wanted the username isherwood but trying to reserve it tells me it's taken. When I go to the page it tells me there is no such user. Sad times.
Unfortunately, that's a genuine (yet inactive) user, but with capitalization. https://hubski.com/user?id=Isherwood If you like, send them a PM with me cc'd, asking if they'd relinquish it. That's about the best I can do.
HOLY SHIT THIS IS ACTUALLY MY USERNAME! this is amouseinmyhouse. Apparently I signed up 555 days ago, used the site for two days, then forgot about it. I couldn't log in because of the capitalization. Thanks hubski. I'm way more excited about this than I should be.
I read the first chapter of "Earth Abides" this morning, and was enlightened.
Better, I looked at the comment history about emotion and transactional analysis and thought "That's crazy, this is something I would say."
