Big Brother or data farming?
- Big Brother or data farming?
They're not mutually exclusive. It's clear that organizations want to get as much information about people as they can. What they want to do with it will vary by the type of organization which ends up with that data. Since they can sell and share this info with each other, there's a big incentive for any group which can grab private info to do so. Search engines, credit cards, government agencies, insurance companies, employers, social Web sites all think they gain when we lose our privacy.

Yep. The government doesn't even need to build a massive data mining operation. The private sector already has, and the government can just help themselves to the data as they please, as they have done with the telcos, and increasingly, search. Any massive data mining operation will be and is abused.

They can't think this will solve anything. Anyone that is up to no good will have everything encrypted anyway. This only hurts, in no way does it help. I just can't see how anyone could be this dense, regardless of how (un) knowledgeable about technology one may be...
