This is a perfect example of what a classical western education looked like for hundreds of years. That was up until Sputnik in 1957, when the western world got a shock to their system about how technologically, scientifically, and mathematically behind they were and revised their education system to increase curricular focus on those subjects.
Seems like the only thing that remains constant and recognizable, apart from some new discoveries, is mathematics.
