Top Dog is my favorite.
Lipuma's in Rochester, MI. Only place outside of Chicago to get a real Chicago style dog, and their regular dogs put American and Lafayette to weeping shame. Plus they have mastered the perfect golden French fry with just the right amount of crunch and grease. If all that isn't enough, the serve the most amazing homemade Itallian Wedding soup.

I happened to be in Roch last night, and after this discussion I had an insatiable craving for Lipuma's. It seems lessismore has good taste, because it turns out they serve Top Dog brand hot dogs (even if it is the chili and fries that actually bring me in). Been going there since I was a kid, and I had no idea.

I know it's gross, but I used to always get a dog whenever I went to Home Depot. I was there today getting a replacement water filter for my fridge and I thought about how if I wasn't a vegetarian now I would definitely be getting one. For reasons like that, I'm definitely healthier now. Funny you posted this today, I haven't thought of eating a hot dog in a long time.

I always got a Churro at Costco until they (or the one I go to) stopped having them.

Yeah, I'm sure it's disgusting. Never again! I used to have a favorite restaurant in Ann Arbor until I visited their prep kitchen. -wholey shit it was gross. Couldn't eat there after that. I used to work in food sales when I was younger, I've seen a lot of gross stuff. There's a Thai restaurant in Ypsilanti that thaws it's chicken on the ground letting it drain in to the floor drain, flies buzz all around it and the room smells like ass. Also, I know which restaurants actually buy quality and which buy on price. -makes a big difference.
If you ever want to know where to eat in Ann Arbor, let me know.
There's always a raging debate in Detroit about American vs. Lafayette Coney Island. I'm a Lafayette man, personally.

I wonder how many people eat at both places when they go for the first time, just for the hot-dog challenge?

Its a good idea actually. The only time I go to American is really late at night; Lafayette closes at 4:00, while American is 24h, but I should blind taste test to be sure its not just the ambiance.
There is, however, one place I like better than either, but its not famous, so I didn't mention: Lipuma's Coney in Rochester. Ever been there? If you ever give up on vegetarianism and you find yourself in Oakland County when you're in MI, its worth going.

Thanks. I'm still fairly certain that this vegetarianism ends promptly at 12:01am january 1st 2013. See ya there!
