What is capitalism if not a system for making other people rich at your expense? There's no value placed on learning as anything other than a means to earn money and colleges have become a battleground in the culture war even as earning a degree becomes more important. You're left with a bunch of people unfit for STEM fields who are really bright and end up vying for jobs in academia because that seems like the only path during undergrad, to get an advanced degree and teach. Employers don't value a person with demonstrative talent outside of a given field even if its requirements are vague. I think I'm starting to rant. I'm going to stop now.
Great post. Ive seen this happening at my school over the past few years, none of the teachers are full time anymore. It's pretty sad that this is how the people that educate are treated.
