I am on an island. There are no adults.
I remember reading and then watching LOTF. I was always pissed at piggie for giving asthmatics a bad name. I think if I were on an island by myself.... I would be lonely. I'm a social animal to some extent. While I cherish my alone time, it's only because I have so little of it. If I were genuinely alone - I would probably go mad. It's also hard for me to think about this from that age viewpoint anymore. Now I AM the adult... gulp.
Isn't Boulder some kind of island? It's weird. We have so many communication tools, hubski, for example. One could be alone for a long time and never be alone. I am really --- easily -- distracted by humans, so I can never be alone enough. I still have a lot to figure out re society versus solitude.
I read Lord of the Flies last year. We didn't talk at all about how the adults were absent. It seems to me that the article missed a major interpretation: it's all about the savage state of the primordial human mind, to which we can all to easily return. We learned it as much more of a study of our base psychology than as a study of what happens when there are no adults. In fact, I remember us commenting more on the racist influences in the book, than how the presence of adults may have mitigated the violence.
Ahh, so they are still teaching it. I'm not saying that Lord of the Flies is a study of what happens when there are no adults, jleopold. I'm saying that these are my thoughts when I am unconstrained. Yes, this blog leaves out most major interpretations. Thank you for your thoughts and recollections from school. These are important too in considering the text. What a great book.
Well then my answer would definitely be different. It's interesting it's kind of like asking how you would act if there were no rules/laws and you were incapable of feeling judgement. I think the most interesting part about the question is that your biggest/harshest critic tends to be yourself. So how much would you actually do differently under the circumstance that no one was watching? I might be naked more...
Sounds nice, doesn't it?it's kind of like asking how you would act if there were no rules/laws and you were incapable of feeling judgement.
-randomuser, I had the same interpretation of the question. I would definitely play more. Outside of the neccesaties of food, shelter etc. I would play. All day long.
