One of the shortcomings of tags on Hubski is that it is difficult to understand how they relate to each other. As a result, it is not always easy to decide which tags are most appropriate for a post. In addition, unintentional dilution of topics caused by similar posts carrying different tags decreases the ability of users to establish communities.
This update is a step towards solving that problem.
Starting today, when you enter a primary tag in a post, you will be given up to nine suggested secondary tags once you click on the second tag text box.
Here is an example:
Clicking on any of the suggested tags automatically adds it as the second tag.
The suggested tags are those tags that are most popularly used with the primary tag.
As always, feedback is much appreciated.
Thanks. We've been collecting tag pairs quite some time now, but not really using the data. I think it might be nice if a right-click could open the tag page in a new tab. I will probably play around with that. There might be other places on the site where it might be useful too.
Currently, 'co-tags' are just gathered in a stream. i.e. the #space co-tag stream might be:
where #mars is the most recent and the most popular. If we pull from a limited set of co-tags, say the first 50, then it would be pretty easy for new tags to make their way into the mix. #mars #astronomy #mars #robots #gravity #astrobiology #iss #mars #carlsagan...
Sweet! Forward thinking. Love this, from someone who can't code.
This is a great idea and implementation! Very excited about this. Are the tag suggestions based and ranked on how often they are used by the Hubski community, or based on my personal tag use/sharing?
This is a good idea. Would it be possible to do something for the first tag that let the poster see similar tags that had already been used? I feel like this would also help build communities in that we wouldn't end up with, for example, a #notebook and a #notebooks.
Great work! So far it's been very good with the suggestions it has offered me. It's easy to use and not obnoxious at all. Pretty chill. I like it immediately. Edit: next stop, helping people discover the tags/topics they're interested in. Nice work mk.
That's not impossible. I'll look into it. You can see on the tags page that some of the lists feature the followers, and you can also see the number of followers on the top of any given tag page; #programming has 610 atm. Some thing like?: #space (560) #mars (14) #spacex (3) #astronomy (99)
