If you want to get published in a magazine, write things for magazines. I would advise you to look for magazines or online journals that generally publish that sort of material, read them, and see what kind of content they are looking for. Then use that to guide your writing choices and style. Don't write one article and submit it a few places and expect that to work; I would say you probably will want to end up writing multiple articles, maybe even six or a dozen, and sending them all out (not at once though) to a ton of different publishers. Then again, before you do that, while you're checking out magazines that publish that sort of content, check their submission guidelines. Some magazines may not accept unsolicited submissions of work like that. Use that to guide your process as well. Sure, it can't hurt to start with blogs or a blog of your own, and yes start small, but I would worry about quality of writing and persistence, as opposed to building your resume. The first two will get you more published than the third. My book is a collection of poems, I think there are 7 or so, that are themed around graves. I don't know if it is easy to say what it is about. mk what is my book about?
