Recently bought my first moleskine and am loving it so far. Also recently acquired my first SLR (note the lack of a D there), and have been enthusiastic about records and tapes for years now. This article touches on some of the reasons why I like the things, and why a lot of other people are turning to them. The lack of distractions, for one, compared to sitting down and writing or listening to a record compared to using Evernote or Spotify. With the later platforms it is very easy to go to the next tab or change songs to something else, and it is much easier to be taken out of the moment. With a moleskine, with a record player, with a tape deck there is much more of an investment in being in the present and also in curating exactly what you're writing down or otherwise partaking in.
I was pretty quick to dismiss them as pocket notebooks because they insist on preforating the last half of the pages, which isn't very durable. So, I switched to homemade ones. Now I use a hardcover one as a journal though, and it works great for that, but the Leuchtturms are tempting.
