I like it. I am entirely skeptical, but I like it.
While a physics graduate student, I was part of a student group that met with potential candidates for an open department position. One of these candidates worked in quantum computing. When we asked him about his research, he quipped something like: "I'm in QC because there is money in it. QC is theoretically impossible, but there's lots of funding for it." That was about 99'-00'.
