So, yeah. What have you been reading and watching?
I, personally, have been watching Shokugeki no Soma and Durarara!
I've been reading Shokugeki no Soma, Naruto Gaiden, Bleach, One Piece, and whatever else is in Weekly Shonen Jump.
Me and my friends watch weekly. We've been watching Eyeshield 21, which has bored me but they seem to like it. It's kind of falling off for them though, which is nice, but we'll still probably finish it since we're on like ep 115 of 150ish. We started watching Knights of Sidonia, which is super rad. As for manga, hooboy. One Punch Man is a favorite, as is Kangoku Gakuen, and I Am A Hero, which sadly hasn't updated in a while. I'm also keen on Shamo, but the scanlations are pretty slow on it. There's a bunch more, but those are the off the top of my head ones.
I read all the way through Overlord and monster girls and I then found out that they are making anime adaptions of them so I'm now watching those when they come out.
If you like music/Slice of Life you might like Hibiki! Euphonium.
I just got done watching the original dub of Ghost Stories. The show was sent over for dubbing but because literally no one cared the voice actors were told they could do whatever they wanted as long as they kept the basic plots. It's amazing. One of the characters is inexplicably jewish. Eventually, towards the last few episodes, all caution is thrown to the wind because the jokes are much raunchier and they are a lot more explicit. The fourth wall is constantly being broken. The english dub was retranslated into Japanese and had a pretty good reception over there, too. Currently I'm reading Uzumaki by Junji Ito. He did Amigara Fault (drr drr drrr). Uzumaki is filled with tons of disturbing imagery having to do with spirals. Nothing too graphic, just weird and a little gross. It's pretty great.
One piece is pretty good. Anyone for fairy tail, death note, or gurren lagann? I was watching this really weird one on netflix recently, it was called Nura, Rise of the Yokai Clan. It had some good moments but was really weird at others and doesn't always do a good job of letting you know what/when is going on as far as the plotline sometimes.
One Piece, as usual. Still in love with it since the day I started. Kuroko no Basuke S3, I'm a ways behind but I've always loved the series. I'm a huge sucker for sports anime. Kekkai Sensen, which I'm really loving, but it seems like it'll finish too soon. :( Here's hoping for a second season!
Most recently I watched Noragami on Netflix. Don't have a whole lot to say about it, it was good, kept my attention, and the story line was interesting enough to keep following. Before that Psycho-Pass, Death Note which is one of my favorites, Attack on Titan which got me into anime, and a few others. Thinking of starting Hajime no Ippo soon or Bleach just because my lifting partner watches it and it'll give us something to chat about.
Watching:
Fate/Stay Night UBW S2
Ore Monogatari
Hibike! Euphonium
Ore Gairu
Plastic Memories And a bunch of other ones I can't remember off the top of my head. Reading:
Prison School
Watamote
Hinamatsuri (this one is golden)
Yuru Yuri
Better not read the ending of the LN then. You're gonna need several boxes of tissue.
I know, that's exactly what I'm scared of. But KyoAni has been really explicit about their relationship, with a red string of fate in the OP and several amazingly animated romance scenes, and they are known to change the plot sometimes, so I'm hoping that this ship can be saved...
About five episodes into Gargantia, not really diggin' it. I'll admit that I started it on Netflix because the title is ridiculous and they had no description whatsoever. Also started Psycho Pass on the strength of Gen Urubuchi but I'm not sure I'm that impressed yet. My daughter watched Arietty for the first time over the weekend. It was a little rough for a 2-year-old. She's heavily into Ponyo and Totoro, though. Have the Nausicaa box set glaring at me, demanding that I read it, but I'm busy with A Prayer for Owen Meany.
I haven't looked at Gargantia myself, with the exception of Knights of Sidonia and Gundam 00, I don't generally like giant mecha anime. I've watched the first two episodes of Psycho Pass and while the story is pretty good and the animation is good, I just absolutely hate the premise of the show. "Oh, you have criminal thoughts? Deadified! Associated with a criminal? K-worded!" Not my cup of tea. I really enjoy Studio Ghibli movies, but haven't seen Arietty yet, despite having a boxed set of all/most of the Studio Ghibli movies. I totes forgot that Nausicaa was a manga. I've never read any of Irving's novels/works, would you recommend them? Aside from the various manga I'm reading, I currently reading notes from a small island by Bill Bryson.
I think Psycho Pass' premise presents a really interesting moral scenario. If you had a system that could always detect violent criminals (non-violent criminals are simply locked up), is it a reasonable thing to use deadly force against them? What does that do to society? It's very death note-esque. If you like sci-fi anime then I would recommend giving it another look and try focusing on the potential utilitarian morality of the premise rather than its immediate distaste.
Man, I watch a lot of schlocky stuff. Oreimo, Koufuku Graffiti, Yozakura Quartet - the best one here is Nichijou. It's not an impressive bundle. I don't read manga.
Hey! Yozakura isn't schlocky! But seriously, Yozakura Quartet is pretty awesome. I've heard Oreimo and Nichijou are pretty good, if you like that genre. However, I haven't heard about Koufuku Graffiti. From its description, it sounds kind of like Shokugeki no Soma, but without the battle anime parts.
Eh. The entire show can be summed up by "cute girls cook and draw things". The animation is really good though, and I'm not using the term as a euphemism.
