Complicated issue. Economic policies are rarely one size fits all, and this may be a good example.
My first job was 6.55$/hr at a pizza place, and we were always terminally short-staffed. If I had been making 2.5 times my wage to do the same amount of work, I would have been by myself in that store even more than I already was (would've never been hired at all, really). I wouldn't be surprised if some of the effects outlined in this brief piece come to pass. What I'm not convinced of is that a blanket exemption is the right fix.
And of course, the Post or someone ran an article this week "restaurants have been getting a pass for far too long" -- so it all depends on your perspective.
