I forgot to post these. I saw this this year on Lake Superior. This is an island about 3 miles away: It's not as clear as the Chicago image, but it looked unusually tall, and on the right, you can see a bit of inversion of the trees. This is another small set of islands that I believe is about 25 miles away: These islands aren't visible every day, and I think the inversion determines whether or not we can see them.
