I am unsure if the trait being tested is tolerance. I unfollow when a friend posts racist or misogynist content but not when they are just being partisan. (although apparently misogyny has become a partisan issue on twitter since Rush's latest kerfuffle).

What would be an example of content a conservative would ban/unfriend someone for ?

No idea, I don't think that way. Hey, we need set asides on Hubski so that conservatives don't feel they are being the "voice of the minority." (Sorry, supreme court humor.)

I'm not sure either side particularly owns stupid entertainer comments, it's just that the left is over-represented in the entertainment industry. Certainly the volume is higher, but the proportion may be the same.

I guess we should leave that as an open question what do you have to say to get a conservative to unfollow you. :)

Well, as long as they stay away from baseball, hot dogs, and apply pie we'll be fine. Or my mamma. Or my dog.

Anti-Militarism? Cop-Bashing? . . . Anti-clericalism?

I have found my conservative friends are more likely to fight than to block maybe that is what is being tested.

Unless you're in a pretty unusual university, if you are a conservative when young you're used to (a) being discreet, and (b) being able to discuss your positions from a position of numerical inferiority. Maybe that's it.

Maybe the uni experience makes one into a scrapper. Gay marriage? could be one.

Who me? Been to one, have several other friends who are civilly unified. I don't really care.

not but if you look at http://www.pewinternet.org/Reports/2012/Social-networking-an...

the "very conservative" group seems to be as surprise-able as the Liberal and Very-liberal groups. I wonder if they are as offend-able.

I have one friend that did not talk to me for a while because when he asked me what I thought of the T-party I said they were just Republicans. (not by a long shot the most offensive thing I have ever said.)

I had a guy block me on twitter because when he used David Brock as the liberal equivalent of Andrew Brietbart I said they were both pieces of sh!t. So I seem to have the knack for offending conservative maybe it is because I am not really a liberal?

I doubt you would be offended by either of those comments. I myself was shocked at their reception.

I have no idea who David Brock is, so that certainly wouldn't have been offensive, and the overlap between the Tea Party and the Repulican Party is pretty significant. But even if the latter weren't true, it wouldn't be an offensive opinion.

If you said Duke Basketball and UNC Basketball were about the same thing, well, then pffffft.

this needs further exploration I have noticed that in academic contexts conservatives stay quiet or get combative and in religious contexts the liberals do the same.

but maybe nothing offends a conservative.

Ha. No, I can easily be offended. I just don't take offense.

But my wife says I am unusual. Well, she uses the word "weird" but I know what she means.

I just remembered I have blocked someone on twitter a Cop who kept calling me a beardy caveman, a fag and telling me I needed to accept Jesus as my savior and stop following traditions that Jesus had superseded. [I assume politeness would be one of those traditions] 30 or so messages a day so I blocked him.

But not because he was conservative.

cliffelam  ·  4640 days ago  ·  link  ·
You have a beard? Gross. :-)

I would not assume he was a cop or a conservative. Remember: on the internet, nobody has to know you are a dog.
