Having visited China several over the last decade, I could sense that the economy became over-heated, and real-estate projects outstripped actual demand based on bubble economics. They've made unbelievable progress, but I think credit became too loose and a culture of speculation took hold. People talk about apartment prices far too much for a normal economy.

I really don't think that the CCP can survive this. I think that tough times are coming, and IMHO, a more democratic government will emerge when the dust settles.

I think the answer to this question is interesting: How bad is the problem? What are the chances that China could suffer a debt crisis like the one the US faced in 2008 or certain euro zone countries are facing now?

The banks will be saved, but inflation will fall on the people. It's already becoming unbearable. I think the government is going to be between a rock and a hard place.

This article is packing such a big story but all we ever get to hear is a "maybe" about "taking money out". But there is a deeper story in here: Chinese government does not "owe" anyone any money (or compounded interest) for the privilege of printing Yuans. "Maybe" we should try that? The bigger question is: why aren't we?

What's the point of being the lonesome superpower cum "empire", after all?

Seems to me the Emperor of the World is the guy who lends the lonesome superpower its "notes". Who is this person/group/entity precisely? And just what "backs" their money machine?
