Best burger? That's a tough one. There's a place in Brighton Michigan called "Champs Pub" that has a damned good burger. I've also really enjoyed the burger at the Jolly Pumpkin in Ann Arbor. Not surprisingly, one of my favorite burgers is a Tempeh Burger from an amazing vegetarian restaurant in Royal Oak MI called In Season Cafe. The burger is called the Big Baprowski. It's really good. If any of you michiganders want a new restaurant to try that's creative and inexpensive, I highly recommend. Here's the Big Baprowski: http://theinnseasoncafe.com/?page_id=44

If it is served on a hot dog bun, is it still a burger? If so, Hot Dog Bill's is the place. Some write ups on the place.

I'm not a huge fan of 5 guys. The burger was quite good - but the fries were disgusting. In-and-out must me the most overhyped chain in america.
Smashburger is a tasty treat for a chain restaurant - but the best burger I've ever had is the stuffed cream cheese and jalepeño burger at the Lobby http://www.thelobbydenver.com/ The best burgers won't ever come from a chain.

I went to in and out 10 times before I liked it.
animal style changed my mind.
Chains should be judged on a different and much lower standard than actual proper restaurants.
Well, someone wrote an article about the bet burger I've ever had. It's actually one of the best things I've ever consumed period.

in and out is quite nice as is cook-out in NC. but my favorite burgers come from greasy spoons.
that list has convinced me to ignore Zagat. the top 2 positions are defendable but the rest are not edible.

The list they put together is ridiculous. They must get kickbacks from the big fast food chains. I only used it to get the conversation started. If I'm ever in NC I'll check out cook-out. Greasy spoons are the best, there is nothing like a well seasoned flat top.
