Mother nature still puts our technology to shame.

If you can't beat 'em, -join 'em!

Though 18 mph compared to 70 mph isn't quite so mind-blowing... :P

I don't want to see future warfare.

I can't even imagine. I wonder if there will be a technological innovation one day that is a singularity of sorts, and gives one country (or group) the ability to take out everybody else in some fashion, without killing the civilian population. Something like the A-Bomb, but larger in scope and smaller in collateral damage. Something that lets one group 'just win'. And would those who develop this unknown tech use it?

Hmm. Sound like a good plot for a sci-fi novel that could come true one day :)

I think that is the point of our military research. And yes, they would use it. Part of Hiroshima was novelty and pride, I am sure.
