While math is one of my deepest passions, I cannot help but disagree that the ten most positively influential events in human history are all developments in mathematics :)

You can use your hands to easily count up to 144 in base-12 (or 120 depending on how you look at it ^__^).

You can count to 144 easily using your hands - thus the importance of "gross" in every society. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pk0hO4oDnzo There are several ways to do this sort of counting. what if you count the meta-carpals that would give you base 20 and would let you count to 400.
