Try scrolling down to the end, where they mention other lists from around the web [albumoftheyear.com or whatever it is, they're ace]. The point of r/listentothis is to introduce us to music that wouldn't be mentioned on those lists. If you haven't heard anything on NPR and pitchfork and spin's lists, this may not be for you. What are you into? I'll give you an album to look up.
Cheers! I'm open to anything. Not too keen on hip hop / rap.
I prefer abstract music - electronic / post rock / ambient / experimental but I like the idea of being thrown into something new. The fact that they also lists the other sites with top album picks actually makes it even worse though.
The must-hear albums on that list are Kishi Bashi's, Shakey Graves' (Shakey's kinda r/listentothis' own artist ... he got noticed there a while back and it led to a huge surge in popularity), Modern Baseball's, but none of those are your genres. Maybe Sadistik, "abstract hip hop." Did you hear the new Flying Lotus?
It doesn't matter that they're not in my preferred styles, I'll give them all a listen. thanks.
