"They dismissed happiness as a Western thing, and suggested we stop talking about it and just get on with the business of living."
- This is an interesting idea, that happiness is a Western idea, certainly I think Westerners pursue the idea of happiness much more than anyone else. We probably go see psychiatrists, take anti-depressants and read self-help books far more than any other culture, and yet it seems like the act of pursuing it might be the very thing in the way of really achieving it.
The article seems to suggest that ignorance is proportional to happiness, the more we know the more we feel unhappy, inadequate or bogged down by the many problems of the world. Are we too informed, do we worry to much about everything that is going on around us instead of living in the moment?
