I don't really expect anybody to care, but I read this and care a lot about it. Which is weird considering I gave up on the sport 4 years ago...but I've been thinking about picking it up again, guess that's a sign that maybe that's the right thing to do.
Yep. That was Saturday afternoon: bowling followed by Hee Haw. It was enough to make you work on cars all day.“I got to see the ‘heyday’ of bowling, in the late 70’s. There were a lot more average Americans who knew who the star bowlers were. Back when there were 3 channels to watch on Saturday afternoon, bowling did very well.
Hah, I could imagine. It's definitely not the most exciting sport to watch, unless you really know what's going on, which most people don't.
Just read some of the comments. I wholeheartedly agree with everything he has said. In particular, point #1s and 4.The sport of bowling declined for so many reasons I could be writing here for days. Several reasons I personally saw were
1. Easy lane conditions creating high scores without talent.
2. Declining interest in leagues due to 2 parents working, workers without consistent shifts to commit to leagues.
3. The cost of bowling equipment (Balls, Bags and Shoes)
4. Bowling centers that had to resort to promotions to generate income. They were all short term bandages in some area's but as with every generation in life a decline from the previous.
