I was going over some stuff I had recorded with friends, and I came upon something interesting.
One of my roommates and I had written music for a group (alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, guitar, guitar, bass, drums) and decided to record it. What resulted was this:
We rehearsed MAYBE 15 minutes before, and the trumpet player not only didn't know he was supposed to be there, but also hadn't touched his trumpet in two years.
Yet what resulted was something that was so full of pure raw emotion. I listen to it frequently because, despite sounding bad, it feels so good.
Do you have a recording or know of a song that sounds bad but feels so good?
edit: On the second track of the playlist my friend Jeff aka Mouth is featured. Download his mixtape
I just finished the almost final cut on a corporate video that I've literally been editing for maybe 30 hours straight now. I don't know. I woke up at 11am yesterday. So that amount of time. I did take a break to do the Hubski Newsletter though! The entire thing is so bad. But the end. Man the end is SO GOOD. The guy basically is like "thanks all for a great year - looking forward to 2015.....[stuff about goals for 2015]. Thank you. [beat] Now.. I gotta go - I need sell something too. BYE!". I fade up Thunderstruck super slowly during that bit and then it cuts to black right on that first THUNDER. Roll credits..with bloopers. It don't matter how bad, cheesy, or cringeworthy the entire thing if you have an ending like that.
The only thing worth doing to/with Thunderstruck is this. See also: Roxanne by The Police.
I dug that B_C. Great guitar solo -Get that guy/gal on Hubski yo! Also, our collaboration needs some brass. Invite your peeps.
I'll see what I can do. I'll be recording more with almost the same group over winter break, I'll spread the word.
Well that's another thing too. We recorded in my friend's basement and they didn't know I expected the to record everything. I think we had one, maybe two microphones set up as well as we could have. I'm fairly certain there's no mixing done on it either.
