- Ten years ago, prescription painkiller dependence swept rural America. As the government cracked down on doctors and drug companies, people went searching for a cheaper, more accessible high. Now, many areas are struggling with an unprecedented heroin crisis.
This is going to sound bad but, I've been "obsessed" with heroin for some time, from a philosophical standpoint. Don't worry, I'm not going to get anywhere near it. But after watching movies like Trainspotting (one of my all-time favorites) and Requiem for a Dream, it has caught my attention. This comic strip was thought-provoking for me. And this classic monologue from Trainspotting makes you realize why something like a heroin 'epidemic' can grip even the most average of people, not just punk teens with difficult family situations. I don't think it's entirely fair to compare heroin to a prescription med epidemic from the past. It's a little different than percocet.
A lot of kids in my town have been getting access to heroin now. I see plenty of death notices in the paper of kids I went to high school with. I personally didn't realize you could snort heroin, I thought it was only direct injection. A false perception I feel some kids have is that its better for you if you don't inject it, safer to snort. Very dumb, I hope the trend stops
Yeah, I didn't realize that for a long time either. Then, I saw the movie Pulp Fiction.
