My app is called SocioLotto. I was interested in learning to create android apps as a hobby, so I picked a simple concept that I thought could have interesting results. Basically, users enter a daily lottery (all free) and if they win, they get to send a message out that everyone using the app receives. I think it would be interesting to see what information, causes, or other content random people feel is important to share or promote.
I'm looking for a frank discussion and any advice to make the app better. Please send any comments or suggestions to [email protected]. Thanks for your help!
Agreeing to receive daily spam in exchange for the chance to send out some spam yourself? How will you protect yourself against bots? Any chance you can do "groups" with a bit of targeting? It might be easier to win the lotto and you have more chances of the people receiving the message actually being interested in it.
Haha hopefully not too much spam... Regulating bots is a good point though. Right now the app is only accessible on a phone, and only one message can be submitted per phone (based on unique phone ID, not user name) per day, so that should limit it some. However, if this becomes popular I will definitely need to code some countermeasures for bots. I think groups is a really cool idea. I am programming this in my free time for fun, but have a running list of improvements, I'll definitely add this. Thanks!
I have to say, I actually think this is a pretty cool idea. I will be interested to see if people sign up and participate. By having the app you are automatically enrolled each day, or do you have to interact daily with it?
Thanks for helping validate the concept! The app simply requires the user to press a "Play Now!" button to enter the daily contest, so they need to return each day to re-enter. The message they want to broadcast is saved however, so there is no need to rewrite it unless you want to. If you are interested and use android, please consider downloading it and rating it. This is a side project of mine and ratings make a big impact on who else might see it.
Interesting use of a social lottery. Kind of reminds me of FireChat in some way, but much more crystallized. So apparently I now have ten hours to create a message, and only two hours till bedtime. Crap. I could totally use this for sales, but if there's to wide a distribution of users across geographic location, it will be tough to find a benefit of it.
