$425 million a day? That's enormous.
http://trafficwaves.org/ is an old site that details how traffic jams are formed and how a single person can help to alleviate them by driving at a slower, constant speed with a large space in front of them. Seems like a great idea to alleviate traffic congestion, but I imagine it'd have other applications, such as alerting you to accidents (and ambulances/police vehicles going to the scene) as well as legal ones - the police may be able to detect if someone is speeding, and so on, and if the information can be recorded it may show up in court. I don't know whether that idea is useful or kind of scary.

I recently posted a video of a talk Bill Ford gave regarding the increasing problem if gridlock. He makes mention if this as part of the solution. I'll provide the link. -I'm excited for this development, and imagine it will be standard in all vehicles before too long.
