So, CashewGuy said that you guys were using mibbit for easy IRC, but I hate mibbit. So I wrote a little how to on IRC.
Granted there's probably better articles out there for it, but meh, it's a Saturday.
Is that really a thing? Edit:...well hole-ee shiet
I know, I just don't want anyone in here getting any ideas. This is supposed to be for new people. On that note though, real programmers use butterflies. Edit: Oh god, I didn't notice you're link. There goes that joke. It's way too early for me to be on the internet.
Compact guide, I'm sure it's useful for people who never had anything to do with IRC! I was just curious, is there any reason mIRC is missing? Sure, you have to buy it in case you don't want to click the button at the start, but other than that, it isn't one of the most commonly used ones? Also, feedback: You have a typo in there "\join #channel_name", but I guess the average user will figure that out. You could also include some pictures to make it even more obvious, but I don't know if that would be overkill. If you ever do an advanced one with irssi, make sure to post it here as well! :D
For some reason, everyone who does IRC either goes "click this link and go" or "caveat emptor bitch, figure it out yourself." I have never once been able to configure colloquy to successfully hit an IRC chat that starts out as a web link. This is probably because I'm not an arch-nerd.
Server: irc.mountai.net
Channel: #hubski Isn't that all one needs?
6667 is the standard IRC port which should be the default on all chat clients.
THE FOOLPROOF GUIDE TO COLLOQUY Fill this in: Then, when you see the upsidedown thunder next to the server name in your list, click Join Room and enter this: And it should work. If joining doesn't work, try disconnecting and reconnecting in your server list. It works for me this way. edit: i should have the pics in the right order, mkay edit2: ironpotato maybe you can paste this in your post?
I was editing the article, didn't realize he'd posted it here already.
I'm using hexchat on windows, but xchat is always the one people recommend :P Hexchat is also linked at the bottom, even though CashewGuy killed the link
