I have liked FLW's work for a long time. On a recent trip to the motherland, I visited three of his works. It was super great to see a couple of them in real life.
This man had a holistic understanding of the patriarchal civilization and expressed it in masterpieces 3 different ways at 3 different times. While Sullivan apparently could not psychologically escape the Great Mother, Frank was apparently more robust and laid down Sullivan's organic ordering system in 3D. The academic effete still don't know what to do about him. (The Japanese temple shot is great!)
One of my students is a guy from Mexico who is trying to improve his English so that he can earn his master's in architecture. This past week, I asked my class to do a reading about the pillars of photography, which the article outlined as composition, lighting and moment and the student in question chose to do a presentation on Falling Water. Long story short, I am amazed at how much Wright's work continues to influence and inspire and it's students like the one I mentioned that allow me to really enjoy my profession. I mean, one can only teach so many rich, entitled people before becoming somewhat (or really) cynical about the effects of education and how we personally influence others as teachers. After the presentation, I was able to find avenues to build a plan for my student such that he has a good chance of success (I think), so hey, thanks Frank.
