Studio Ghibli has impacted my life greatly ever since I was kid and first watched "Princess Mononoke". My father, a gruff business man who had no time for "cartoons", spent one of his days away from work to watch this movie with me, and was moved by the emotive characters and beautiful score just as I was. This event is very special to me; I never really got to spend time with my father when I was young because of his excessive involvement in his business.
Whenever I listen to this, all of those memories flood back and I can't help but tear up.
However, the nostalgia is not the only thing that makes this work special. Joe Hisaishi is one of the greatest composers of our time, and a few minutes spent listening to the beauty melodically composed by this man is time well spent.

It was wonderful listening to this and re-imagining scenes from the movie; I've seen it a bunch of times. I love how slowly it starts, with the pauses between drumbeats, and then again at two and a half minutes; really builds up the tension. Truly stellar.
Most of the Ghibli films have great scores, with strong motifs recurring throughout the film. Princess Mononoke is excellent; Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away are other obvious choices, but that's because you really can't go wrong with them. Check them out!

Miyazaki and Hisaishi have together produced some of the most profound works of animation ever created since the inception of the artform. I highly recommend that you watch anything created by Studio Ghibli, I can assure you that you will not regret it!
