I tried to do my part. I voted against a renewal of the police and fire millage in my city last month (sadly, they are lumped; I would have preferred to not have to vote against funding the FD). I live in an area with no visible crime. We don't need our own police force, as the county police could handle every problem that arises. Unfortunately everyone thinks they're fulfilling some kind of civic duty when they vote to fund the police. It passed with like 90% support or something, and this in a conservative city that is very anti-tax. I for one, would gladly pay double or triple to the local library and/or schools than give one more red cent to the police. I'm not against taxes, but I sure hate paying them when I know they're going to feed the already bloated suburban police.Big Small Government is all around us. We simply haven’t trained our minds to notice it.
