Scotland Yard has warned internet users they could be arrested under terrorism legislation if they viewed or shared the video of James Foley's murder, as Twitter and YouTube attempted to remove all trace of the footage from the web.
The unprecedented social media clampdown came as the Metropolitan police warned that even viewing the video could constitute a criminal offence in the UK.
What? So it's now a terrorist crime in the UK to accidentally end up on the wrong website by accident? I know people who would accidentally run into something like that and have no idea what they were watching, nor would they know who James Foley is or what happened to him. The UK scares the shit out of me. It sounds like if you don't follow current events you can be classified a terrorist, and if you follow current events you are an extremist. It's a lose-lose situation. Plus, what if there is an expert in facial recognition that wants to help identify the guy. Right now it's currently unclear if he's the guy in the video, right? Disclaimer: I haven't seen the video, please don't classify me as a terrorist.
I understood what you said. How do you know someone not living in the UK is okay? We've discovered secret things that classify citizens as extremists or terrorists in the past, and the GCHQ has a close relationship with the NSA, as does the entire UK and US governments.
Apparently, nobody wants to host the video, and even LiveLeak is banning it. I didn't watch it so I'm not sure exactly what was in it that is so subversive. I have to wonder if it's as gratuitous as special effects gore, or does it have some sort of message?
