CAPTAIN MURPHY FAN? Cause I'm not. Yet. I don't fucking get it. Yet. Also, I'm assuming you know this is his "alter-ego," his "first" one being Dj/producer Flying Lotus.
Just keep listening..and listening...and listening. Captain Murphy is the shit. Also, regarding Spacemen 3 in the other post. Love JV's suggestion but I'm a bigger fan of Playing with Fire.
I cant even find playing with fire on youtube cause theres all this pop vevo stuff in the search feed, link meh. I posted Cpt. Murphy's track with Immortal Technique, DOOM and Earl a while ago, and then only coincidentially found oht he was Lotus. go underground scene go.
Captain Murphy is the rap record I've always wanted FlyLo to do, but with a better, more diverse rapper instead of himself. It kinda reminds of when J Dilla raps, he's just a much better producer. Seriously, if you aren't up on Flying Lotus, get there. Cosmogramma is one of my favorite albums (I shoulda recommended that on your vinyl thread), stuff off LA or 1983 is a good way to get into him as well and you can feel his indelible influence on modern hiphop through those 2 records.
this made my tongue go numb. all the visual-mashup reminds me of how things remind me of other things. Like how words and sounds trigger hormones that are familiar , connected to other memories and shit. Too much for me right now.
Fly Lo has a new album he's about to drop. And he's coming to my town in November. Pretty excited about the whole thing.
Oh god those visuals. I don't think I could handle that at a live show. That's intense.
I believe Strangeloop does a lot of his visual media stuff. He's got a lot going on in his head.
Spotting the guys behind the artists is always the coolest thing for me. Like when I found out Leif Podhajsky was doing the album artworks for Tame Impala, Foals and all these other guys. Awesome stuff.
