Yeah, although I think in some circles the distinction is more about the scope of individuals' interests, like just a "nerd" is someone who appreciates or excels in academia, whereas a geek has more specific interests (e.g. computer geek, sports geek, etc). (Side note: I have heard "the geeks will inherit the Earth", but that probably has more to do with geek & meek rhyming than anything else.)
