I'm glad the author of this article decided to include Ōshima Nagisa's In The Realm of the Senses (愛のコリーダ) in this article, because that film used to stir up quite a bit of controversy back when it was released. So much, in fact, that even up to this day you cannot buy a fully uncensored copy of it in Japan. It's a French production of a Japanese movie, which is rare, and back in the seventies, when the Japanese film industry was having a hard time due to the suffering economy and did almost nothing but pushing out cheap (but nontheless culty and fun-to-watch) soft-porn movies, it was even rarer. This film is basically pornography, but it has to be the most unerotic pornography I have ever seen, because the whole background of psychological destruction is so disturbing that it is literally impossible to be aroused be it. And the fact that the whole thing's based on a true story doesn't make it any better.
This article made me think of the double-dildo scene from Requiem From A Dream, mainly because it made me wonder if that sex act was the real deal. I don't mean to say that I found it erotic or stimulating (anal just isn't my thing), it was quite jarring within the context of the movie. I guess I could also point out the fellatio scene or any of the other sex scenes in that movie, they were all so jarring and real, that it did seem... Strange to see it on film, in a Hollywood movie. I wasn't against it, I was just given some food for thought that made me wonder if "real sex" is common in American films. (Disclosure I'm an American, I watch a lot of TV and movies, but never gave something like this any thought.)
