This site amazes me. I've never seen a community this small yet this active.

Is the community really that small or does it merely feel that way because of the UI? How big is hubski?

I felt the exact same way when I stumbled across Hubski 260 days ago. I've stuck around due to the tightly-knit, active community. It's not about the site itself, it's about the people.

delta I joined on the same day as you, and for the same reasons that you stuck around, I am not afraid that we will have to fight off the consequences of popularity. You and I were the new kids just like the current wave, and we grew into it despite many that faded away cause it wasn't their place.

I'm happy I've found my little nook in a corner of the Internet; I'm glad you found it with me. I hope these newbies stick around, I love fresh company. Many new waves will come and I will feel the same.

Perhaps it has to do with the tags I've followed, but I haven't seen much spam/shitposting at all. These new migrants appear to be fitting in already.

I only joined this morning (yes I'm one of those political refugees), and I haven't been here long enough to appreciate hubski's 'personality' or decide if we're a 'fit'. But I wanted to let you know two things: i. if I stick around beyond the short term, it's because I like this place and your company; ii. the only communities I ever abandoned after longterm participation have been ones that restructured their member interaction for the purpose of farming us out to marketers and advertisers. Everything I've seen today promises that is not hubski's style. So if we fit (fingers crossed) I'm cautiously optimistic we'll be fine.

Having said that, I'm shy, and there's a lot to see here. I'll probably be very low volume while I'm looking around. Thanks for the opportunity.

Yeah man welcome, I said the same thing to swedishbadgergirl who just joined, please dont feel some sort of pressure to meet an expectation or standard here. Do whatever you do, trust me you'll find an audience here. Subconsciously I got uneasy thinking I had to somehow compete with some of the really intelligent people here and ended up dropping Hubski, but that was just how I was and I don't think anyone should feel that way. Take it easy, we're all friends here.

Welcome smittee, you can rest assured that you will NEVER be considered a "product for marketers" on Hubski. We created and built up Hubski because we wanted a place that didn't yet exist. A place where quality conversation and thoughtful interaction were the most important qualities. -this is what drives all of our decision making. We are first and foremost users of the site ourselves and that seems to make all the difference.

Again, welcome! Don't be shy, we are glad you found us!

Also, check out our primer page for more info: https://hubski.com/primer

Huh, that's a pretty neat point. When reddit co-founders "first used" the site, they did so only to simulate and synthesize popularity by basically talking to themselves with hundreds of fake accounts. See what happens when normal humans just do normal human things :')
