For some reason I watched The Royal Tenenbaums each of the last two nights, and it struck such a strange chord with me that during the scene where Luke Wilson's character Richie tries to kill himself, Elliott's song Needle in the Hay played. Then, two years after the movie came out, Elliott ended his own life. Obviously a fairly strange coincidence, but oddly prophetic. I suppose the song placement wasn't that odd anyways, being that a huge chunk of Elliott's catalog is so fucking lyrically somber. Jesus, really really enjoyed watching this. I wanted to say that it's incredible just how humble he is, but that's not even right. It's 'less' than humble. I don't even know what to call it.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. He seems to exist outside the bullshit, rockstar stuff and has a seemingly firm grasp on what he is/wants. I wish he was still making music.
