Hi all!
So this is a thing that's happening this Saturday. If anyone is in the area you should definitely join up, it should be a good time!
If anyone wants to do anything Friday night let me know, I'm out of work at 5pm and have nothing going after that. I think insom gets in early Saturday morning?
As for Saturday, I propose some combination of tours and seeing the city during the day, and drinking later on. I might be able to get some passes from the library for half-off admission to certain museums and other places, so once we figure that I can look into it more.
Looking forward to meeting everyone!
Oh whoa, good luck with that! Let us know how it goes.
It went better than expected, thanks for asking! I wrote another overlong race report if you would like more detail.
Okay so Meriadoc, mal-2, _refugee_, insomniasexx, scrimetime (if you'd like to join!) and humanodon, how's the following sound for Saturday (feel free to shoot things down/out): 11:00am: meetup at Sam Adams and do that whole tour-shindig - Mostly free, small suggested donation. Lunch (mal/Rico, do either of you know of any good places between Jamaica Plain and Huntington Ave?) Museum of Fine Arts - closes at 4:45, $25 admission. Touristy things like the Freedom Trail?. It's looking like a nice day Saturday so I think walking it would be nice. I'd say checking out the Public Library might be cool too. And/or Taza Chocolate Tour which is only $5 per person. Dinner - Same deal, suggestions? I eat just about anything. Maybe someplace up in Cambridge like East Coast Grille?. Exploring Cambridge? Something else? Drinking at the Publick House in Brookline since it's a cool bar and close to where ref/insom are staying. === Sorry this isn't totally fleshed out, been kinda swamped this week at work and after work.
Some ideas: - There is a food truck festival in Somerville - http://foodtruckfestivalsofne.com/ - The public library is holding a big book sale - http://www.thebostoncalendar.com/events/citywide-friends-of-the-boston-public-library-june-book-sale - The River Festival is going on in Central Square (lots of good restaurants in that area too) - http://www.cambridgema.gov/arts/Programs/riverfestival/Visit.aspx - The Greenway Open Market is running by the harbor, we could also explore the North End or Faneuil Hall if we ventured over there. - http://newenglandopenmarkets.com/greenway/ I think we should give some consideration to transit so we're not bouncing all over the city. Maybe something like Sam Adams, then take the Orange Line up to the North End/Faneuil Hall area. From there we could take the Orange further up to check out Somerville, or take the Red up to Central for their Festival, or go west along Newbury/public library getting closer to Brookline.
I'd say go South to North along the orange/red then back west once it gets later, would that make sense? Those two fests look great, I'd love to check out either/both.
Yeah that makes sense to me. I'm always eager to get close to the North End because Modern Pastry and Bova's are there. :) Only downside if we go into Cambridge is there's no easy way to get back to Brookline via T from Central/Harvard. I don't know if people are driving or not, but we could always split an Uber or check out stuff along the way too.
In my experience it's not really faster than taking the red to Park and then getting on the D line . . . but you never know on any given day with the MBTA. What's the deal with those bikes? Those were introduced after I moved away, but that seems like the fastest way to me.
Yeah same here, plus the 66 is usually packed. When I say packed... You can rent a bike at one location and drop it off at another. I haven't used it before but I do see people using them. It's $6 for a 24-hour pass though, so unless people are using it all day it's probably cheaper to split an Uber van.
Hey all. I just arrived in Leominster. We are going to shower, get coffee, leave here by 10am - drive back to BOS - return rental - and take the subway whatever to Sam Adams. We probably won't be at Sam Adams until 11:30. I'll keep you posted.
Does Sam Adams involve drinking? If so, is it a good idea to do that first?
Yes...but...sometimes it leads to sleepiness / not cranking out the amazing list of things we want to do?
You (shouldn't) get drunk at it, the tasting is only like 20 minutes. We can totally start anywhere else, just wanted to throw out something.
Oh, that sounds grand then. I'm not picky. I would love to do the tour, I just didn't know how crazy it got. I did a wine tasting in Napa once it and it was basically just walking and sipping wine for 2 hours. I was completely done-zo by the end of it.
I really wish I could be there, I fully expect some real-time photos posted to Hubski. scrimetime, you really should show these guys how to drink. What are you doing that's cooler than hanging out with hubskiers?
I wish I was around. I have met with hubskiers "in the wild" before, at Solid Sound Festival, and had a GREAT time. Unfortunately I'll be on the Cape visiting the folks. Definately not cooler, but......I hope everyone has a blast.
Wilco announced that they will be putting on another Solid Sound in 2015. We will have to do that again! T-Dog, will you guys be playing it again? That would make for one kick ass Hubski meet up.
You played Solid Sound!?!?!?!!?!?!!?! thenewgreen, I am so, so, so, upset that they're not doing it the one year that I'm living close to the area.
yep! this is the band i play bass in. We were there last summer and it was fantastic. Met a bunch of cool bands, stayed in the hotel across the street, had an all around awesome time. We unfortunately had the 11:00AM set and tng didn't make it (this was also before i was on hubski). Hopefully if we can play there again it won't be during breakfast.
T, Now that I know you....you could play at 5am and I would be sure to be there. Even if y'all don't play, I would hope to meet up.
FYI, I was just talking with the drummer of Bon Iver, I think I might ask him if he'd join in out collaborative music project. -nice guy.
If you get the inside info on the exact weekend, let me know too. I'd like to begin planning now. I want to bring my wife and that will require flying my parents down to watch kids etc. It's the best music festival I've ever been to. Such a cool venue.
we should shout out. humanodon insomniasexx who else is coming? I know nowaypablo said he couldn't make it. (Boo hiss!)
I'll be there! Arrive Saturday 6:20am and leave Sunday 7:30pm
