God damn I love Texas politics. I sit around reading HST and the old Berkeley scene, Jersey politics, Kingfish ... and I'm so glad Texas politics are interesting because it would be a lot harder to enjoy studying US poli sci history if there wasn't something modern and relevant with which to compare it. Anyway. I notice they didn't put a year on this Dem movement. I've seen 2020 mentioned around and about. Could be. -- Anyway, anyway. I was talking to my uncle about Dan Patrick this weekend -- he ran bars in Houston in the '70s so naturally he knew Patrick during Patrick's previous life as a trashy sportsbar corporate whatever. Said Patrick was a total cunt (apparently "afraid to skydive" shrug). Then my aunt, who's Mexican and barely speaks English, wandered into the room, heard the words "Dan Patrick" and said half in Spanish, half in English, "Oh he's a little pussy bitch. Used to hate him. Fuck." and wandered out again. They've got pretty good instincts.
As a native Texan who moved away but wants to come back, this is reassuring. I never considered living anywhere but Texas for the majority of my life, but the politics is so batshit crazy that I'd rather move to what I consider a more "northern Texas" (Minnesota, Wisconsin) instead. Maybe there's hope yet.
