I'm always looking for films that I can watch with my in-laws that aren't completely horrendous. For example, they loved this film -so you see what I'm up against. The Marigold Hotel movie would be a good one to watch as it wouldn't make me puke in my mouth and perhaps Disney's Million Dollar Arm would be a good one too.

Thanks for the review. I think I'll watch it... right after I watch the Wolf of Wall Street though. -Need balance.

yup, this definitely qualifies as a good in-laws movie - fireproof, eh? I'm so sorry. that's rough. but I think this is one all will enjoy. and, yeah, this is definitely a good balance with Wolf - the sweet and the salty!

Oh! I just watched...most...of that movie for the first time this past weekend! If you haven't watched it before I'd be interested in hearing what you think of it.

Like roysexton, I enjoyed it (haven't read your review yet Roy, but I saw the link and will look forward to it) for a number of reasons:

1. It's funny 2. It's fun -I'm pretty sure 90% of heterosexual males would agree, that "the Wolf's" lifestyle looks like fun 3. It's well acted -although there's too much ad-libbing song-songy-frat boyishness scenes but that's an editors fault. 4. It's good looking and captures the time well

Most of all I thought it was amusing and fun. It's not Scorsese's best but I'd definitely recommend it in the same way that I'd recommend the first Hangover film. What did you think ButterflyEffect?

My only complaint was that it could have been a half hour shorter. Great acting, and like roy my favorite was Matthew McConaughey's character. It's fun, it's a bit crazy, and somewhat true I'm sure. I'd watch it again.

Yeah, I was bummed out that Matthew McConaughay's character did not return. It would've been nice to see where he landed years later. You get a bit of the "effect" of the actions or consequences, but not enough in my opinion. That and like you say, the length of the film are my two biggest criticisms.

agreed - he was the absolute highlight for me - and, yeah, I could have done with 30 minutes less for sure

great assessment - it definitely takes you to another place and time quite effectively. that's the sign of a great movie!

You put it perfectly in your review IMO:

This is a naughty movie for those naughty enough to wink at a naughty world that is pathetically preoccupied with cash and sex and stuff. So, go be naughty.

I personally liked Wolf a lot - here's what I wrote about it: http://reelroyreviews.com/2014/02/10/debauchery-r-us-the-wolf-of-wall-street/
