I guess you'd have to be born by 1982 for the "invasion of Panama" to mean anything. On the news every night were pictures of the streets of Panama City, like this: the neighbourhood of El Chorillo after the invasion: Cell phones back in the early 1990s were too heavy to carry, so they stayed in the car. Steve and OftenBen, thanks for your comments on my story and thanks also coffeesp00ns.
I was young enough to not understand it all, but old enough to remember the imagery on the news and know what was happening… but the wikipedia article was still an interesting read. Car phones… I so clearly remember the first few I ever saw…. ahhh nostalgia.
And also thanks flagamuffin for making an ignored Nadja reference?!?
I tried to understand your comment. I wondered if it was a typo. I searched the internet for "affairs will be convulsive" -- I give up, please explain. Oh, and thanks always to flagamuffin for reading my story. (Even though the reply should alert you, I thought I'd throw in a shout-out. I hope you will sleep in today.
The last sentence of Nadja is something like 'beauty will be convulsive or not at all" -- I may be getting that wrong it's been a while since I read it. It was an AWESOME reference to your AWESOME character within a character and I am AWESOME.
Flag - how am I supposed to know that among all your other skills, you are also an expert in French Surrealism. It was an awesome reference. If people think that my character's alias "Nadja" is a reference to the character in the book of that title, that is pretty cool.
This one, with Nadja tenderly placed closer to the floor so she wouldn't fall from the higher shelves. I loved that thread.
Right on top of Il Monstro and what I believe to be selected works of Vonnegut. So two class levels above the floor. That cookbook is an Untouchable. The bookshelf thread helped me know whom I should befriend and whom I should scorn/Because they only had empty space, Sandman and porn.
