2006
10/10 album. This is a haunting song. Though somewhere in the mid-tier of this album for me.
You have no idea how much I love this band, and this album in particular. I could write 500 words on it no problem, but for what it's worth here are the songs ranked by yours truly: 1. Limousine (MS Rebridge) 2. Degausser 3. Luca 4. You Won't Know 5. Jesus 6. Welcome to Bangkok 7. The Archers Bows Have Broken 8. Millstone 9. Not the Sun 10. Sowing Season 11. Handcuffs 12. Untitled The difference between 1 and 3 is almost negligible, the difference between the rest is how I'm feeling on a given day. I'm glad you shared this song.
"You won't know" scared the hell out of me and just knocked me out when I first heard
Deja Entendu is a great album. I still listen to it occasionally today and I loved it when it came out. So naturally I was anxious for Brand New's next album. "The Devil and God is Raging inside of me" IMHO did not have the same musical quality and lyrical content as Deja Entendu and I stopped listening to them. I need to give the album a listen again to see how I feel about it 8 years later (OH my god where did my life go). To me though it sounded like most of the songs were musically similar to "Play Crack the Sky" or "The Boy Who Blocked his Own Shots" (<--- brilliant song). The lyrical content was definitely more self reflecting in a depressing sort of way. Rather than reflecting on societal norms (Sic Transit Gloria), tragedy (The Quiet Things that No One Ever Knows), or just plain interesting (Jaws Theme Swimming).
