I have two friends (strike that - one) at church who are in a halfway house. It's a ridiculously difficult life. One is working tirelessly at an endless stream of temp/day labor jobs to try and pay the "rent" at the facility. His under educated, not well spoken, and has almost no real skills to speak of. Instead of providing a place where some one can be trained, educated, or counseled into re-entering society, it is a huge dormitory of bullies and "turn-a-blind-eye" drug abuse. He barely makes it, but he has a strong enough will to get done and get out. The other got bounced back to county last week - caught with some drugs. damn.
