Sometimes, I have the feeling that the united states acts faster on external issues (Ukraine, Afghanistan, Iraq, everywhere in Africa etc.) than their internal problems. I am not expert on U.S. politics, but don't you guys have problems like drug policy, healthcare, increasing poverty and student debts to work on? Maybe the energy should be funneled into that...

Comes down to process. Most of foreign policy is the exclusive purview of the executive branch, whereas the legislation has to be agreed on by the executive and the legislature. In an interesting case concerning your home country currently pending before our Supreme Court, is a question of how much the legislature can insert itself into foreign policy.
