It's admittedly a cross-post from Hackernews, but I thought this was too ripe to not cross-post here.
I think the the author is being way too hard on her/himself. I also think it's super cool example of chaos theory in action. A butterfly flaps it's wings in Africa (user spouts a few strings of text into the Internet ether) and you get a hurricane Sandy (companies freaking out and scrambling to get on the biometric device bandwagon).
Does anyone have a quick breakdown on the original rumor articles - how it spread, who was skeptical, etc? Like JohnDuh, I seemed to miss this whole thing.

Apple weirds me out on multiple levels. I think the only thing I've ever owned from them is a first-generation iPod Nano.
