- The forced resignation of Brendan Eich will have a chilling effect on political discourse.
liberal values are inconsistent, what a surprise. i'll file this one between "welfare" and "capitalism". but this doesn't damage political discourse. everyone in our society already bears consequences for promoting their viewpoint unless it's mainstream. the author is just mad that the mainstream is changing. If that attitude spreads, it will damage our society. i honestly believe that this would the the absolute best thing for any society.Calls for his ouster were premised on the notion that all support for Proposition 8 was hateful, and that a CEO should be judged not just by his or her conduct in the professional realm, but also by political causes he or she supports as a private citizen.
Now, I hardly doubt the eviction had anything to do with the 1000$ donation. 1000$ is pocket money (even when you're not a CEO). And as the article said, being against gay marriage does not equal being homophobic. You have to be mindfucking dense to think it is. It's true that most people against are homophobe, but that's not a reason to simplify. (correlation, not causation)
Let say Eich made a donation against marriage. Just marriage. Not gay marriage. All of it.
Lets even suppose he think marriage is the dumbest sickest thing on earth. He dont want anyone being tied by marriage bond.
Nobody will fear he discriminate against spouses in his job. Nobody will even call him insane.
I suppose the shareholder wanted badly to get rid of Eich. They toke the first thing they could find against him. It's all just a nasty power struggle at the top of a company. Eich loose. I'll gladly reconsider my position, if someone could direct me toward some element proving Eich is homophobic.
By your logic you can't call segregationists racist because not all of them are demonstrably so. What a crock of shit.
