- While Carl Sagan once hypothesized that the cultural link between left-handedness and badness arose due to the left hand’s use for hygiene purposes in nonindustrialized countries, Wolman points out that the association has much deeper roots, including the very etymology of the word “left”:
Ask Hubski: Any lefties in the house?
I had a friend (a left-handed vegetarian) who was doing research on the correlation between left-handedness and vegetarianism go figure. Originally I was ambisinister but ending up specializing on being clumsy with mostly my right hand.
I'm left-handed for most things. I play guitar right handed and am fairly ambidextrous with some mundane things though. That was an interesting read into the history of theories for hand-dominance.
I AM LEFT HANDED! Except I use right-handed scissors. Otherwise I am left-handed in pretty much all the ways: I throw and throw punches with my left, smoke with my left, generally play the lefty role in sports. I use a fork with my left hand (can't imagine doing otherwise), same with a spoon as long as it's the only utensil I'm using. I can't remember but when I shot a shotgun I may have actually done that right-handed. It was a very long time ago though so I can't be sure. I just use whatever side feels natural and usually it is the left. Lefty scissors suck, though. I have always liked being left handed.
