Hm. I was a teenager when AIM and SmarterChild (the only chat bot I really remember) were around. I think the biggest difference is that the level of interactivity found in Siri-esque assistants and older chat bots or other devices. Said interaction would make it a more authentic experience.

I agree and disagree. I remember SmarterChild but there was one I found via an IRC that a friend was building. That thing was...very risque. There was one hacked together bot that would throw together other user's responses (similar to SmarterChild, IIRC) but without filtration. It was all based on this IRC room If you typed "you're a bitch" it would most likely come back with "you're a slimy whore."

At least I know Siri won't be responding to cussing or cussing back at children.

Is that so bad? I mean, I acknowledge that as a parent you probably want to control the interactions your child has with the world and that includes cursing, but is there anything so bad about cursing itself?

Recently a couple was seen having public sex on St Paddy's Day at my alma mater. There was public outrage. I found it kind of hilarious. Many people were justifying their outrage by saying "What if children see?"

Well, what if they do? Why do we feel the need to 'protect' our children from sex? It is something they should know about at some point. It is not something that I feel is inherently damaging to see. (If it is abusive sex, sure, but that is a different case.)
