Leaving your car driving while you sleep would quickly get more expensive than a decent apartment or rental house most places. You'd easily use up a tank of gas a night. If I used a tank of gas every day right now, that'd be around $1200/month.

Will that be a tipping point of sorts? The point at which a perpetually moving shelter can be cheaper than a stationary one?

Gas isn't getting cheaper. Barring some great new battery technology for electric cars, that would have to mean real estate prices going up even faster. That seems implausible to me.

At $1200/month there are some cities where it already makes economic sense.

Some better off folks might just have their cars circle and summon them as needed.

one car families might commute to work and send the car home to their partner to use.
