These are cool findings, but I'm not that surprised, especially since this is in East Timor. Lot of the tribes in that region still use technology to catch fish that isn't too far advanced from what they could have used tens of thousands of years ago. One technique involves going into the lagoons with a lot of people and a long rope made of palm fronds. They start in a large circle with the rope floating on the surface and slowly make the circle smaller. For some reason, lots of fish won't cross the barrier even though its on the surface, so eventually they're so concentrated that the people just start spearing at will. Who knows how long this tradition has been passed down?
