The barrier to entry is low and the noise to signal ratio is higher, a side effect of cheaper technology. The downside is that while it's easier to physically make films, it will never be easier to write a better story. As someone who works in independent film occasionally, a lot of the time I find myself asking that besides the paycheque and the fun people you meet, what the hell am I doing here? There is simply too much content and not enough time to digest it all, not enough fucks to give. I guess some people need something to do in their lives. Once in a while a great film will come out and it will all seem like it was worth it, feeding flames to the fire.
Y'know with mainstream Hollywood veritably erupting with propagandist drek that's more marketing than film I struggle to see this as a bad thing, being a film buff.
