hi hubski, been a while. thought i'd share this #sweet #oc with you. there was a fire in my (small) town this evening at a foundry. apparently the foundry is active during the day but not at night, so thankfully no one was inside. it sounds like the battle against the blazes will continue throughout the night. the foundry went up once before, 29 years ago in 1985.
I wonder if there is a cast of another building right below it? Maybe they were just melting this one down.
Great image hiss. I wonder what kind of materials the foundry uses? You might want to steer clear of the fire in case there are hazardous materials in the smoke. It's odd, but whenever I see a business that has burned, I immediately wonder if it was insurance fraud. If this foundry has had two fires in the last 30 years, they are going to have a difficult time finding someone to insure them moving forward.
A country club in my town "mysteriously" burned down sometime last year. The club was in large amounts of debt and needed money badly. Most people go there to golf anyway. "Oops, I dropped a match. Better not stomp it out because I feel threatened." Insurance money for everyone It happens, people.
Thanks! Yeah, my first thought was "Greek Lightning," but apparently it's got an even crispier history than I'd heard: according to the local historical society, the foundry company that put up a business on that spot way back in 1926 had their original building burn down that same year. May just be a hazard of the industry, but agree that it seems suspicious and insuring the place will be difficult.
